Welcome Shalom Aleichem שלום עליכם
A Guide to the Area of South Eastern Poland known as "Galicia" The Centre of Spiritual Jewish Poland in Memory of Millions of Jewish and Polish people who were murdered by the Nazis ימח שמם . "Dzien Dobry i Powitanie" - Poland 2008 - Special Note June 2008 This new section of www.yarzheit.com is in memory of the millions of Jewish and Polish people who were murdered by the Nazis ימח שמם. I took particular interest in the south eastern part of Poland after my first visit to Lizhensk on the נועם אלימלך , Noam Elimelech's yarzheit on 21st Adar - which was on Sunday 11th March 2007, this was a life-changing visit for me. Which acted as a catalyst to return for a whole week in May 2007, followed by two further visits for Rebbe Noam Elimelech's yarzheit in February and March 2008. I toured the region with groups and guides who knew all the places of spiritual interest, and had all the contact numbers of the key-holders to all the cemeteries, Ohels and tombs. Together with visits to many famous Rebbes graves in this region formerly known as Galicia, i stayed in Krakow which has a wealth of spiritual experiences; especially profound was davening in the old Remuh synagogue and praying in the Old and New cemetaries. In this south eastern region of Poland, just 1 hours drive westwards from Krakow, are the Auschwitz and Birkenau death camps. Seeing, in "real reality" (instead of in a virtual world of computers or TV), and walking along the pathways of death, the vastness of Birkenau death camps and gas chambers of Auschwitz gave and has given my life different a totally different perspective and helped me find the meaning of life. I have heard from many people that the profound experience of visiting Auschwitz and Birkenau have indeed transformed and changed many peoples lives irreversibly; to the extent that i have made this section of the www.yarzheit.com website in memory of the souls of each and every single person that were murdered during the "dark years" of the 2nd World War and that my sincere wish is to encourage every single person, especially anyone whom is Jewish, (whether one is praticing Judaism or not), to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, this is a place of remarkable significance with respect to world history and more significantly to our Jewish history, and lessons that we need to learn about "life". Poland is now part of the EEC, enabling freedom of travel into what was formerly behind the iron curtain of "eastern europe"; the flights from UK are very cheap and plenty of good value comfortable hotels in Krakow, there is simply no reason any longer to delay and why anyone can't see Auschwitz-Birkenau at least once in ones life. I sincerely wish i had been there sooner - as it has changed my life, my attitude to life and meaning of life for the better. I assure you, a visit to Poland and to Auschwitz-Birkenau will indescribably change your life, your attitude to life and thereby you life will find new meaning !
