All the famous rabbis over the past 2000 years have asked to be buried here, in this spiritual place of Israel . The Tomb of Rabbi Akiva is half way up the hillside past Rechov Hashomer Street .

Rabbi Akiva

Until 1990's you could actually go inside, there was a very low ceiling and one small entrance room lead to another where he was buried, the feeling inside was amazing and very spiritual . Nowadays there is a fence blocking the entrance . His resting place is high on the hill overlooking Tiberias and the Lake Kinneret. He was born about 50 years before the destruction of the 2nd Temple and lived a total of 120 years. He became incredibly great because of the goodness of his wife Rachel. It was all due to her, he said. He was murdered by the romans on the day before Yom Kippur .
